Let me just begin by saying yes, I lied. I had promised in
my last post to share pictures of some of my new paintings and brainstorms the next day, and of course I didn't. I was still missing a camera and then there was work. A lot of work. I've picked up some extra days at the pet resort and it's been busy!
After getting 10 hours of sleep last night (I was just
a little tired) I'm finally getting some stuff in order around my house today, and that "stuff" includes my blog! :) I managed to snap a couple of shots of some of my brainstorming paintings in my studio. Check 'em out (warning: this piece is NO WHERE near being finished):

The splattered painting was just me having fun and trying to loosen up. The wood and newspaper piece is the one I'm really excited about. |

Slight close-up of my favorite. |
I really like the idea of trying to stay as "green" and eco-friendly as possible, and the idea of reusing old wood and newspapers really appeals to me. Who knows if it is going to turn out the way I've envisioned. I just have to play around and see what happens. But the bottom line is this: even if I don't sell a single painting, as long as I'm doing what I want to do and painting what makes me happy, that is all that truly matters to me at this point in my life.
Okay, on to another subject I'm passionate about: flea market finds! My mom and I went to a big outdoor flea market in Washington County last Sunday, and I found a couple of really cool things.

My dream office chair... vintage, wood, and it swivels!!!!! |
I found this chair at the very beginning of our walking around the market. I was afraid to ask for the price from the dealer. It was in good condition, and it was a solid wood office chair. I can't even begin to explain how long I've been looking for one of these!!!! As fate would have it, the dealer was in a great mood and the price was just right: $35. I almost fell over. I immediately snagged it. And the best part? I don't have to do a single thing to it! It's perfect to me as it is. :) Doesn't it look great in our office?
And here is my second find...
 |
It's the wood artwork I purchased at the flea market... not the trunk or the tin can. :) |
 |
How friggin' cool is this!?! |
This piece of artwork caught my eye instantly. I saw it from a distance (it's a big piece!) and I was so excited when the dealer told me I could have it for only $20. It's on a thin piece of plywood, but the artist (Bruce Boudinot) did such a phenomenal job burning each and every line into this piece of wood, creating an awesome log wood cabin. I just love how unique and rustic it is. I thought it would go perfectly with our house, and I figured Steve would really like it too (he does!). I'm thinking its permanent home will be in the first bedroom upstairs.
Sorry again for my slow blogging. I really want to stay on top of it! After we return from our Costa Rica honeymoon (I'm so excited) I plan on making more time for myself.
Peacing out,
Nikki
