Isn't it interesting...

When you take a moment to sketch a self portrait, and see what you end up with on paper?

Self portrait, 5/9/2011
I think everyone should draw a self portrait at some point in their lives.  You don't have to be an "artist" to do it.  Just trust yourself enough to put whatever you can on paper and see what you end up with.  When I look at mine, I see something plain.  I also see a bit of vanity (probably because I couldn't bring myself to draw some of the actual lines that are on my face!).

I'm working on my artist bio statement today for my art booth, which is why I cranked out a self portrait in 5 minutes.  My first show is in about a month and a half, so I'm starting to get organized for the show.  If you think about it, there is so much that goes into making a place just to sell things.  You need a place to put the money, a place to put business cards, signage, chairs, tables, accessories to dress it up, different methods to accept payments, and finally your products!  And that list is just the tip of the ice burg.  I also need my tent, my panels, tools to put the tent up and secure it on the ground... the list goes on and on.  If I sit around and think about it, I tend to get a little overwhelmed.  That is why I'm taking the day today to just get my sh*t together and start getting organized.

OH!  And I almost forgot.  I got into another art show! :)  It's called the Blue Water Art Fair and it is located in Port Huron, MI.  The show will take place on July 22nd & 23rd.  It's about 5 and a half hours away (ouch) and it is only the second year this show has been running.  I've done some research, and the show looks promising for my type of work.  The booth cost is only $190, which is a bargain!  I talked it over with Steve, and I think we are going to go for it.  It's right on a lake, and it's in an area we both have never visited before.  Why not try something new in the dead heat of summer? :)

Okay, enough typing.  I have to get back to my bio.

Have a great day!
Nikki
