Yesterday I went to the Brooke County Animal Shelter with my future mother-in-law, Sue, and her good friend Bonnie. It was a tough day (always is with all of those sad eyes on you), but we got some great dogs and cats to help adopt out.
I've managed to organize all of the dog pictures. Here they are (in no particular order!)...
 |
Ramona |
Meet Ramona! She is a puppy (not sure what mix!), and extremely sweet. I really liked her because she was all shy when she was in a run with her other siblings. I'm always a sucker for the shy ones! :) I don't think she is going to get too big. She is quite petite, as you can see.
 |
Beezus |
Beezus is the dog giving you the sad eyes in the corner. Isn't she adorable!?! She was the more laid back puppy out of all her siblings (yes, she is related to Ramona). Her markings on her fur are really unique, and she is a very lovable puppy.
 |
Peanut |
This is Peanut (I borrowed your dog's name, Julie!) and she also related to Beezus and Ramona. When I picked this puppy up, she actually hugged me! So friggin' cute! She is the tiniest puppy out of her other sisters. She loves being the center of attention, as you can see in the picture!

Moe |
Moe was a diamond in the rough at the shelter. He was dropped off earlier in the morning before we got to the shelter. His previous owner could no longer keep him at the place she was living. Her loss, our gain! He's a Yorkshire Terrier mix, and so pleasant to be around. He didn't bark and yap at all yesterday, and he was going through a lot of transition! This would be a cool, smaller dog to own.

Shelby |
Shelby ("
Open your eyes, Shelby! Open, open your eyes!"... Get it? Steel Magnolias?) is one of my favorites. It's probably because I'm partial to corgis. They are just so cute!!!!!!!! Shelby was very shy when we got her out of her run, but she warmed up to us after a few minutes. I would totally adopt her if I could! I will be sad once she finds a home... I will miss her terribly!
Here are some more cute shots.

Peanut and Shelby...AWWWWWWWWW! |

All in all, we picked out 10 cats and 5 dogs! It was a lot of work when we got back to the pet resort. Everyone helped pitch in bathing the animals and getting them situated for their first night somewhere new. I was exhausted by the time I got home last night. It was a good exhaustion though.
Even though going to an animal shelter is emotional and sad, I feel like I'm making a big difference by doing it. I'm just thankful that I have the opportunity to do stuff like this now. I had no idea what I missing out on when I was working a full-time, crappy job. This is definitely more fulfilling.
Gotta go and get some art work paperwork organized!
Peacing out,
Nikki
UPDATE: Moe was adopted on Thursday, May 5th!
Another UPDATE: All dogs are adopted (except Ramona!) as of May 12th.
