Our Full Bathroom-Before and After

I've officially decided to show "before and after" pictures of selected rooms in our farmhouse once a week!  Now, this once-a-week thing depends on what rooms are completely finished.  Our house is still a work in progress, and with Steve and I back at work, things have slowed down on the remodeling front substantially.

So, for today's post, I've decided to feature our full bathroom.  I'm certain the before and after pictures will not disappoint you.  :)

This is the waaaaaaaaaaaay before picture of our second floor full bathroom remodel in our farmhouse.

Looks odd, right?  That's because we decided to put our full bathroom in this corner of the second bedroom upstairs.

A little structural history: When we first purchased our farmhouse, it had one bathroom on the first floor (pic below).

AHHHHHHHHH!
Now, ALL of the bedrooms were upstairs, so this was definitely NOT going to work for us.  I can't imagine dragging my sleepy, sorry ass all the way down the stairs to use the toilet in the middle of the night.  So, Steve and I decided to put the full bathroom upstairs, directly above where the old one existed (note: this bathroom shown above was totally torn out about our 3rd day into owning our farmhouse).

It didn't take Steve too long.  Maybe about 15 days after we bought the house?  This is what it looked like when it was all framed.
I remember at this particular time I felt like nothing was ever going to get finished with our house.  We were still demo-ing multiple rooms and removing a ton of plaster and debris.  Steve worked on the bathroom while I helped Charlie (Steve's stepfather) and Travis (family friend) rip down walls and ceilings.

After a few weeks, some tile work done by Steve, some painting (Dusty Miller by Glidden from Home Depot) done by me and Sue (Steve's mom), the bathroom looked like this:
The hardwood floor job was my responsibility.  I had never refinished hardwood floors before, and I was determined to do it.  I'm not gonna lie-- it took awhile, and Steve helped a lot.  But in the end, they turned out beautifully.

Steve and I wanted to do something really special for the sink.  A few months back, he worked for a client who wanted to turn an antique table into a sink.  Here is the picture of his client's bathroom when he was finished:

Steve's beautiful work for a client
As soon as I saw this picture, I was like, "I want THAT."  Steve loved how it turned out, too.  While we waited for our house to close, Steve and I went to the Heidelberg Antique Mall (one of my favorites!) and bought this for $75.00:

Sewing machine soon to be turned into sink!
Steve and I loved the iron work on the bottom, and the size was perfect!

The finished sink and toilet were the last pieces to go into the bathroom once I finished and polyurethaned the floors.  Here is the after:
After of our full bathroom
The hand towel rack, sconces and mirror are from Lowe's

Steve ordered the sink and faucet online (I forget where!)

Love the iron work!
The sconces really match the sinks iron work

White subway tile and decorative tile from Home Depot

Delta faucet

Steve picked the decorative tiles himself.  I love lavender scented shampoo! :)

Nice close-up of our bathroom sink

White Roman Shade from JCPenney's

When we can avoid putting holes in the wall, we do (TP roll holder from Lowe's)
I plan on making some slight adjustments to the bathroom, like a new bathroom rug and shower curtain.  But for now, this works well for us.  We plan on adding a master bathroom from our bedroom in the very near future, so I can't wait for that!

And here is one last picture of the bathroom, in it's normal state (it doesn't look so perfect when we use it!).

Keepin' it real
 Peacing out,
Nikki
